Ductless OR “Mini-Split” Systems

Ductless systems (or mini-split systems) are very efficient and provide consistent room comfort. A ductless heat pump or air conditioner typically consists of a wall-mounted indoor unit combined with an outside compressor. It’s most often used in a situation where a window-style AC unit would be considered but not preferred, such as a new addition to a house, a sunroom, or an enclosed lanai. Unlike window units, ductless units require only a very small hole to be drilled into the wall and have many more mounting options, making them less vulnerable to air leakage and security problems. They are also very quiet and cost little to operate.

Traditional HVAC compressor start-up consumes a large amount of electricity and happens often. Ductless systems have inverter compressors, which speed up and slow down based on the needs of the system instead of shutting off entirely as traditional HVAC compressors do.

There are many situations for ductless systems, the most popular in Florida would be an enclosed lanai. Some people enjoy having a ductless system in the master bedroom, allowing a more comfortable sleeping environment without the cost of cooling the entire home.

Ductless systems can also be set up with only one outdoor unit and multiple indoor units, this allows only the rooms being used to be conditioned.
